How European bra sizes are built
Most of continental Europe sizes bras in centimeters. The band is the underbust rounded to a 5 cm step: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90. The cup comes from the difference between bust and underbust, also in centimeters, with roughly 2 cm per cup step.
The US, UK and Australia use inches, with 1 inch per cup step. Two systems, two units, and the same idea underneath. The converter above maps one onto the other, so a European size becomes a US, UK or Australian size of the same band and cup volume.
Bands: centimeters to inches
The EU bands line up with US and UK bands like this:
- EU 65 is a 30
- EU 70 is a 32
- EU 75 is a 34
- EU 80 is a 36
- EU 85 is a 38
- EU 90 is a 40
Each 5 cm EU step equals one 2-inch US step. For Australian sizing, take the inch band and subtract 22, so EU 75 is AU 12.
French, Belgian and Spanish bands
France, Belgium and Spain use the EU method with a different band number. Add 15 to the EU band to get the French one. So EU 70 is FR 85, EU 75 is FR 90 and EU 80 is FR 95. The cup letters stay the same.
If a tag shows a band of 85, 90 or 95 alongside a smaller number such as 70, 75 or 80, the larger one is the French size.
Cups: single letters in order
European cups run in plain alphabetical order: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H. There are no double letters.
Up to D, that matches US and UK sizes. After D, the letters shift:
- EU E is US DD and UK DD
- EU F is US DDD and UK E
- EU G is US G and UK F
- EU H is US H and UK FF
So the same cup can be an F in Paris, a DDD in New York and an E in London. Nothing about the bra changed.
At the larger end, US labels vary between brands, and the small difference between 2 cm and 1 inch cup steps adds up. Above DD, check the brand’s own chart.
Worked examples
- EU 75B = US 34B = UK 34B = AU 12B = FR 90B.
- EU 70E = US 32DD = UK 32DD = FR 85E.
- EU 80F = US 36DDD = UK 36E = AU 14E.
- EU 85G = US 38G = UK 38F = FR 100G.
Measuring in centimeters
If you shop European brands, it can be easier to measure in centimeters from the start. Take the snug underbust and the standing bust as in how to measure bra size. The calculator accepts centimeters and gives the EU size directly, along with every other system.
When the conversion feels off
European brands, like any others, vary in band tension and cup shape. If a converted size fits the cups but not the band, try a sister size: one band smaller with one cup larger, or the reverse. In EU sizing, the sisters of 75D are 70E and 80C.
For other country pairs, use the main bra size conversion page or the full bra size chart.
